Three months of more mud than I’d like, fewer showers than I’d care to admit, and countless hours of searching for good-but-practical outfits. Ah, festival season.Last weekend I flew out to Denmark with The Blogger Programme for my second european festival of the summer, and my very first Roskilde. When doing a festival abroad there is an added limitation of baggage allowance, and of course the physical act of carrying all your damn stuff there and back, meaning that festival fashion has to be more carefully thought out.

I decided on this black mesh, t-shirt style midi dress from Primark for one day of the festival: the silhouette is casual but the sheer fabric makes it less chill than everyday wear (in a good way). I wore it with boots for the mud and a faux leather biker, and an optimistically lightweight pac-a-mac – I got very wet.

Roskilde is one of the most up-and-coming European festivals going. Taking place on a site roughly 30 minutes outside of Copenhagen, it has played host to the likes of Arcade Fire, Lorde, LCD Soundsystem, New Order, Florence and the Machine, Nicki Minaj and The Rolling Stones in the past few years alone.

Picture the Danish version of an English festival, and you get Roskilde. An obvious take, I know. It’s cleaner, nicer, everyone is taller and blonder, and most impressively the entire festival is sustainable. USPs include a skatepark in west camping, an actual literal lake that you can swim in, and a ‘quirky’ tradition of campers who build weird and wonderful structures around the site in the lead up to the festival. Like most European festivals, the headliner at 10pm is followed by more bands til the early hours; if you still want to party after that, many campers (outside of quiet camping, of course) bring huge sound-systems and host parties all across the site.

In an effort to combat any feelings of festival homesickness I might have, Roskilde kindly provided a solid 36 hours of rain in the middle of the festival. Nevertheless, fun was had, my hair didn’t look *too* completely insane, and the sun even showed up in time for Ice Cube’s set (yep) on the Saturday. See you next year?
