The Monthly Playlist: June

Football is coming home, my dudes, but in between repeat plays of Three Lions, World In Motion, Vindaloo and Tubthumping I have found time for some of my favourite new releases in a long while. Most notably I have not stopped spinning Matt Maltese’s Bad Contestant, Snail Mail’s Lush, Nine Inch Nails’ Bad Witch, SOPHIE’s OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES and two new rippers from my favourite band of the moment IDLES.

This month I saw Arctic Monkeys play the bloody Royal Albert Hall and almost jumped off the balcony during From the Ritz to the Rubble, I made my return to Outbreak Fest in Leeds and stage dived during Turnstile, and I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Public Image Limited play at the 100 Club. On an altogether calmer note I saw Matt Maltese debut Bad Contestant in a magical show (neons and heart shaped balloons and the lot) at Scala, and cried my little eyes out seeing Death Cab For Cutie two nights in a row at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and Scala respectively. July is upon us and festival season is well underway, and I can’t wait to see out the rest of summer dancing in fields across Europe.
