Denim: Top 10

I am just really into denim at the moment. I can’t quite explain why, perhaps a side effect of 70s revival fashion (although I have a suspicion that Alexa Chung’s recent collaboration with AG Jeans that has been all over my Instagram feed has only perpetuated it). Going from left to right on the collage above, here are my top 10 denim pieces that are available right now (and yes I’m really feeling button-through skirts):

Some time in November I was invited down to ASOS HQ for a fun little event in collaboration with Nike iD and Pendleton. I found it really interesting to learn a little more about Pendleton (a brand I knew had a rich history, but a history I didn’t know much about) and I left wanting all the flannel shirts and blankets. Despite being a fairly traditional brand, Pendleton remain very current by constantly working with other brands in order to create unique, often limited edition products, the latest of which being a selection of customisable Nike iD trainers. I sat down with a lovely lady from the Nike iD team to design~ my own pair – I didn’t own any iDs until these (although I did already have two pairs of Roshe Runs…), and as I’m quite particular about trainers it was great to have the freedom to choose the fabrics, textures and colour combinations and of course have my initials embroidered!

I chose an outfit from ASOS to go with my shiny new trainers (and it all arrived on Christmas eve, how sweet?!). I went super casual with this super super high waisted pair of ugly-but-cute wide leg jeans and lovely soft ASOS White silk blend tshirt, which is now on sale for a very reasonable £11 (I’m thinking of buying some other colours), accessorised with some simple silver jewellery (all linked under photos below) and my new go-to black handbag.

Merry Christmas everyone! I am so excited to be posting some more photos taken by the beautiful and talented Portia again, aren’t they great? And what better day than Christmas day to post about a very sparkly ensemble (which is currently first in the running for a new year’s eve outfit)? This amazing deep v-neck sparkly dress is from Motel, and also comes in nude. It’s what I would describe as a tinsel fabric, not unlike the skirt I blogged about here! The neckline is very low cut though, so for a more casual affair I layered it over an almost-as-sparkly lurex t-shirt from Oh My Love (currently on sale for a total bargain £7). I finished off the outfit with thigh highs (although it would look great with a chunky pair of heels, too), and some daintier silver jewellery – links and details for that below!

Thoughts? Last minute NYE dress, perhaps? I hope everyone who celebrates is having a lovely Christmas, and everyone who doesn’t is having a great day anyway!

ASOS – Colour Control

I have just spent at least 15 minutes playing around with the subject matter of this post – i.e. this super inventive Colour Control video from ASOS (featuring girl band JUCE)! Trying flicking between all five colours as the song plays, how fun!

The tonality used throughout the video is really cool and basing an outfit around one colour is one of my favourite ways to dress. I quite like them all five colours, but careful consideration I think that my favourite version is the blue one. How amazing is the flares and sweatshirt combo from the second scene, and this mix and match patchwork denim jacket from the edit? Let me know which is your favourite colour!

Flares AND bell sleeves? I figured if I was going to go for this look, I may as well go all out. I finally bit the bullet and got brave enough to order myself a pair of these incredible kick flares from ASOS (which are the most amazing fit and I am now obsessed with them) after seeing them on Megan and Hannah. I think that the secret is the figure hugging top half of the jeans, which I personally much prefer over baggier flares. This pair look amazing paired with a bit more of a modern, minimalist silhouette on top, but here I decided to go for this super cool monochromatic, floral kimono with bell sleeves, which I (very creatively if I do say so myself) safety-pinned into a floaty top. For some extra warmth and a nice print clash, I threw on a recent H&M purchase in this massively oversized scarf, which can also be worn as a blanket cape.

Finally, shoes and accessories. My beautiful bag is from Satchel Central. It is really excellent quality and big-but-not-too-big, and I think that the fact that it’s very minimalistic provides a nice contrast to the rest of my outfit here. My shoes are from Orla Kiely’s AW14 collaboration with Clarks, and I have hardly taken them off since I got them. They’re a nice little nod to the 60s trend, and have a decent heel (2 or 3 inches) but are still insanely comfortable, as you would expect from Clarks.

‘Modern Victorian’ is one of ASOS’ ‘new season now’ trends – I was excited to be challenged to style up these pointed monk shoes. I feel like this fairly androgynous look is more modern Victorian man than anything (although I do love the more feminine gothic lace pieces from the trend.) I love the silver-grey pattern on the shoes, and the point and small heel which makes them perfect for smarting up an otherwise fairly casual outfit like this. I wore them here with: a slouchy, oversized grey pinstripe jumper from Primark, one of my favourite throw-on pieces for university at the moment; trusty ASOS duster coat; and some angle grazing, dark navy tailored trousers from a JW Anderson for Topshop collection, which I bagged in the sale a year or two ago.

I’m also wearing glasses!! I have recently become a glasses-wearer (although I only need them for lectures), so of course I was quite excited to find the cutest frames I could. This pair is by London Retro, from Glasses Direct. They’re a really lovely shape but are also super simple so they go with everything – ideal for me to just keep in my bag and put on whenever I need them.

LFW Day 2 – Outfit Of The Day

Looking through my blog I realised it had been a while since I had worn an all black ensemble (gasp), I had almost forgotten how much I love it! And what better way to get back into wearing all black than with this stunning sheer French Connection dress? I got so many compliments on it, and now I can’t wait to wear it again. I actually changed it up slightly by wearing it over a nude slip rather than the black slip it comes with, I wanted the full effect of the embellishment. Over the dress I’m wearing a super soft Missguided faux suede biker, and I finished off my outfit with ASOS pointed flats, round sunglasses, and an old favourite in this total Alexander Wang rip off (oops), of which you can get a similar version on eBay here. I’m also wearing a dark burgundy lip (Limecrime Wicked) What do you think of my LFW day 2 outfit?

Well I’m not looking forward to going back to boring old outfit post backdrops after all these super scenic photos with famous monuments in Paris! It was only fitting that I wore some horizontal stripes on my trip to France, and this dress from Quiz is great. It took me very easily from day to night worn with a casual but still very (for want of a better word) chic H&M trench coat and simple pointed flats. I like to think I looked très parisienne, non? My faux French image perhaps ruined by the fact that I was taking photos of literally everything.

Outfit Of The Day | Classic White T-shirt

For a while, my wardrobe has been missing a really great plain white t-shirt. I have some nice crops, plenty of band shirts and the odd vest, but no t-shirt, so I jumped at the chance to own a little piece of luxury in this T by Alexander Wang classic white t-shirt from Harvey Nichols. £67 is undeniably a lot for a t-shirt, however many wouldn’t hesitate to pay that for a high street quality dress they’ll wear once, so my thinking is why not reinvest that in an excellent quality basic which can be worn until it goes that unavoidable yellowish grey.

Anyway, for one of the Disaronno Terrace events I blogged about here, I wore mine with these gorgeous culottes and some clunky Stella McCartney-esque shoes from Pretty Little Thing, ASOS duster coat and Missguided white bag. I finished off my outfit with a red lip in the form of Limecrime’s Red Velvet. Thoughts?
