I received this beautiful American Apparel double layer chiffon maxi skirt in the post today, courtesy of the ASOS sale and costing me a grand total for £4 thanks to the lovely people at Vice! The colour is perfect and who doesn’t love a bargain. Here I paired it with a fringed bodysuit, originally Topshop, which I got from a discount store called Steals years ago. I’ll also definitely be wearing it with my black velvet bodysuit or a button-up shirt and black creepers, and in the summer a loose white vest.
Layering, jumpers thick tights and sheepskin lined boots are key for keeping warm in the winter. This sequined jumper from a few years ago is a perfect Christmas alternative for those who can’t quite bring themselves to don the traditional ‘ugly’ festive sweater. This specific Topshop jumper isn’t available to buy any more, but they stock some great alternatives like this.
I paired the jumper with a thick burgundy skirt from Ark, button-up denim shirt which you can buy from any high street, vintage or charity shop, and Topshop’s Marcy Lace-up Fur Boots which I would definitely recommend.
Whether you’re hitting the slopes this winter or not, this super stylish and practical collection from Ashish for Topshop has something for everyone. The stand out leopard print salopettes should perhaps be saved for the snow, but the cheeky slogan sweaters, hoodies and t-shirts are perfect for any cold weather. The waterproof leopard rucksack is also a piece which combines style with practicality, and in rainy England it makes a perfect bag for school, college, university, or just everyday use. If I could have anything from the collection, I’d choose the amazing leopard print ski coat! What about you? Shop the collection here.
The Unique SS12 show on Sunday at London Fashion Week was undeniably a real treat to watch (if only through my computer screen).
The inspiration behind Topshop Unique SS12 reportedly ‘came about when Karen Bonser, Head of Design, found herself watching Elizabeth Taylor in the iconic 1963 adaptation of Cleopatra. Captivated by the glamour and opulence of ancient Egypt, along with her design team, she began to explore what a modern Egyptian Queen would wear in urban London.’ (via insideout.topshop.com)
Upon watching the live stream of the show, the Egyptian influence was very clear through the use of gold, the hieroglyph-inspired prints, the stunning sandals and even the nail art! Unique SS12 featured a lot of sporty and slouchy silhouettes, which combined with the tighter fitting outfits, made this a perfect collection, somewhat reminiscent of 90s Hip Hop! The gorgeous colour palette was one of the best parts of the collection, featuring metallics, pretty pinks, whites and creams, as well as some striking black and white prints and the occasional dazzling turquoise. My personal favourite pieces included the chunky platform sandals and the horizontal striped, translucent calf-length skirts, although I loved everything else too! What are your thoughts?
