The reportedly ‘open to all’, fantastically eccentric Spring Summer 2012 Vivienne Westwood Gold Label show at Paris Fashion week was unsurprisingly special. Westwood took a huge influence from China for this collection, supposedly targeting the new and ever growing fashion market in China, which is obvious in a good number of the looks, for example with the Mao caps and jackets. Dame Vivienne noted “I have always loved the Mao cap, though I hate violent revolution”. Other influences included the desert – because of climate change, and of course 17th Century corsets. The collection also featured some unmistakably Westwood pieces (not that it is ever easy to confuse her work with the work of another), for example the ‘consumerism disguised as anti-consumerism’ ‘I ♥ CRAP’ clutch. As usual, the beautiful bridal wear was certainly a highlight of the collection for me, namely a stunning sequinned lace gown with some equally gorgeous bridesmaids’ dresses alongside.
