Looking at these photos makes me sweaty. I’m not 100% sure what the hottest day of my trip was, but on our one day in Washington DC we walked KINDA FAR in 33 or 34 degree blistering sunshine and (not to be overdramatic) it was probably a near death experience for me. In case you were wondering, I am still blindingly pale.
DC was the shortest stop on mine and Toni’s holiday (we had one evening and one full day) and so we crammed as much of the tourist stuff into that time as we could. I would have liked to have been able to explore the actual city a little more and could probably have spent days perusing the Smithsonian museums, nevertheless I enjoyed my short time there a lot. We started at the White House (which I was extremely underwhelmed by) and worked our way around the Lincoln Memorial, through the gardens to the Washington Monument, the Capitol (which annoyingly was under construction and so didn’t look as impressive and minimised the effectiveness of our attempts to recreate that Bad Brains artwork using Snapchat) and the Smithsonian museums, before hopping on the metro to Woodlands where I ate probably the best vegan sandwich I’ve ever eaten in my life (it was a tofu chicken, bacon and avocado club). Other than that sandwich, my favourite thing by far about DC was its architecture. Everything from where we arrived at Union Station, the airport that we left from, and the concrete subway stations to the monuments and museum buildings was overwhelmingly magnificent. I have included some photos I took on my phone here too!
My outfit was very simple and hardly needs discussing, although I feel like this knitted halter-neck top from Primark deserves a special mention because I’ve worn it so much on my holiday and it was only a fiver. Thoughts?
