I am unequivocally not a morning person, I have never been a morning person, and I will never be a morning person. One of the many joys I take from working for myself is that I am often able to wake up whenever I please, and work into the evening instead. I am, however, a starry eyed sucker for the romance of a sunrise, and so an invitation from Lipton to extend my weekend with a visit up to the rooftop of Peckham’s Bussey Building was enough to motivate me to drag myself out of bed and up far too many flights of stairs at 5am.
The ‘golden hour’. That magical period of glowing light that occurs all too briefly as the sun rises, and just before it sets. Like the best Snapchat filter you could imagine, but in real life. I tried my best to capture some photographs, although I’m not sure I properly did it justice. Unlike much of the content on this blog, the London skyline at sunrise looks better in real life than it does in pixels (or at least in the pixels that I am capable of creating). I took a moment to sit and embrace the view, feel the warmth, digest the colours, and I could not help but imagine how much more wonderful the world would look if it were bathed in golden hour light more frequently.
Soon enough the sun had completely risen, and London clouded over. I returned home, fell asleep in spite of my best efforts, and woke up three hours later to ordinary grey skies, drizzle and daytime television. Had I not woken up fully clothed, my rooftop excursion could have been a dream. I am not a morning person, but there is something to be said for making an exception every once in a while.
*this post is sponsored by Lipton, but all gushing about pretty skies is my own*
Definitely not a morning person myself, but I should wake up earlier because gosh, sunrises are so dang beautiful!
