Christopher Kane SS14 was another stand-out collection of LFW for me, although I wasn’t expecting anything less! It seems that the infamous sarky Miranda Priestly quote “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” cannot be applied to this innovative collection, as Kane used florals in a way which is undeniably unconventional.
Kane took us all back to school biology lessons, favouring cross sections and labelled diagrams of flowers over romantic (and overdone) rose prints in wishy washy colours. The super cute sweatshirts emblazoned with floral-associated words cannot be ignored, very basic (and easy to DIY if you’re feeling creative!) but very effective. The scientific element also translated in the amazing intricate laser cut-outs, Kane’s idea that “it was a lot about dissecting and revealing” clearly visible.

At the opposite end of the spectrum to intricate diagrams, the collection also featured very basic interpretations of florals in the large petal shaped cut-outs pictured above. These were used conservatively in two-piece suits, and in a much more daring manner all over the front of some dresses and tops – something for every occasion!
The only parts of the collection which I was less keen on were the spray painted metallic looks (above). The allover mismatched metallics combined with rough edges and slightly unconventional melted fabrics was a bit much for me in combination, but I think that toned down it could definitely be something I would wear, and I loved the metallic shoes paired with the outfits pictured above.
Florals continued to inspire the gorgeous evening wear from Christopher Kane SS14, but again in a different way. I particularly loved the silk satin gowns with stunning draping and sparkling floral collars and straps – super glamorous but still very Christopher Kane! View the full collection at style.com.
