To be very honest with you, I want to be a Burberry girl. I want to have a collection of tartan trenches, pvc coats, caps, anything with that new rainbow check, and of course scarves. I also want a mansion and ten dogs. But alas I have not yet made my millions and neither of my parents is or was a rockstar, so until one or the other of those things happens I am happy in my treasured checked scarf and an altogether less expensive but just as lovely H&M trench.

When the temperature hits anything below 6 degrees you will exclusively find me either indoors or wearing two coats (with a secret invisible cardigan layer underneath the first). With March approaching I am itching to get into Spring colours and textures, but seeing as the world has decided to freeze over again, layering is key to getting my pastel fix without my fingers dropping off. I am counting down the days til I can debut this cute pale blue corduroy combo in all its kids-TV-presenter-esque glory.

Here’s fashion week again, pushing me out of my daytime-dressing comfort zone ever so slightly. I would not normally think to wear a pretty, floral, ankle skimming dress for anything other than a dinner or a wedding (for a person who has been to precisely one wedding in their adult life I spent an awful lot of time thinking ‘oh that dress would be so nice for a wedding’) but dressing as ‘the best version of me’ over fashion week has got me thinking – why not?

A dress as lovely as this – I received a compliment on it from almost everyone I interacted with this day – should not be confined to special occasions. I want to wear it with a leather biker jacket and chunky black sandals or little ankle boots, I want to wear it with trainers in the spring, I want to lose the belt to make it a little more casj.

For swanning about doing nothing in particular on the final day of fashion week I paired it with this dream coat which I bought while in Paris at The Frankie Shop, cute red booties and some ‘statement’ earrings.

Fashion month, however much or little I am involved in it, always gives me a kick up the butt when it comes to slightly more creative dressing. Ten twelfths of the year I tend to opt for one loud piece per outfit – the printed jeans, the red faux leather coat, the red boots – but when the four fashion weeks roll around and the cool girls on my Instagram feed look cooler than ever, I throw them all together and hope for the best.

Red and white is one of my favourite colour combinations – adding black to the mix can look like you’re taking emo revival a little too seriously, but I think that tying it all together with little prints softens that blow a little. Or doesn’t (I mean look at that checkerboard bag), but I like it anyway, so there. I would tone this outfit down for another occasion by swapping out my Ashley Williams pants for plain white jeans and my pointed boots for some trainers.

Monday at fashion week, after a long weekend of shows, events and (inevitably) boozing, called for some heavy make-up and a sort of gothic ~victoriana~ look, featuring a velvet blazer. I happened upon this blazer on a pure stroke of luck – after regretting not purchasing it when I first saw it, I eventually found it in the ‘last chance to buy’ section of H&M for ten bloody pounds! It is still available on the website full price, but it is my new favourite alternative to a black leather biker and would defo be purchasing if I hadn’t found this one.

The ‘victoriana’ vibe here comes as a result of the combination of the velvet blazer and this pretty blouse from Reiss – the high neck ruffled collar is super elegant and nails that ruffle trend (that was a ridiculous phrase to type) without being too over the top. Also, Kate Middleton wore it recently (she obviously copied me) and it keeps selling out, so get in there asap. I paired the blouse with some more ‘edgy’ biker styled waxed jeans, and finished off with pointed loafers and a masculine watch.
