Diverging from the usual girly florals, Erdem AW14 was a little darker and more regal than usual. Texture played a key part, with luxe velvet, fur, metallics, opulent embellishment, and even wet look crocodile leather to die for. Black was certainly a base colour for the collection, which I love for its own merits but also because it made the gorgeous golds, blues and reds really stand out. The shoes definitely warranted a mention too – all pointed with ankle straps and, to the surprise of some, all flat! All in all a stunning collection, and definitely a stand out of fashion week for me.
That’s all! Some other collections which I think were particularly noteworthy included Holly Fulton, Eudon Choi, Giles, Christopher Kane, Julien Macdonald and David Koma, but I have now run out of fashion adjectives. I hope that my somewhat under-educated opinions of LFW AW14 were informative, and if not at least a little entertaining!
I’m spending my Monday catching up on some of the fabulous (and not so fabulous) SS14 collections from some of the UK’s finest, shown over the weekend at London Fashion Week. I’ve been underwhelmed by some (what is Topshop Unique doing?!) but blown away by others, and thankfully Mulberry falls into the latter category.
Mulberry embodies how I think I will dress when I am in my 30s – I’m not quite classy enough (or rich enough) to pull it off yet, but that doesn’t stop me dreaming. It is much easier for me to describe what I didn’t like about Mulberry SS14, namely the strapless bodices (above) which I’m just not quite feeling, because everything else was magical! I especially loved the textured prints, printed matching sets or ‘co-ords’, the bags (duh), and of course Turbo the adorable bulldog!
The colourscheme didn’t blow me away (probably because I’m too busy loving every shade of pink at the moment), but it definitely wasn’t a disappointment either. I especially loved the use of grey and baby blue (I need the baby blue subtly floral shirt and dress in my life!), and also the all white outfits which have been so popular over the summer just gone.
Stripes played quite a big part in this collection, being featured on bags, worn head to toe, and even inspiring the strappy shoes. All stripes were chunky and horizontal but also very subtle which I love; Mulberry chose to juxtapose different textures and slightly different shades of a similar colour rather than opting for a bolder clash of colours which featured in their SS12 collection.
I can only hope that Mulberry continues to be this amazing after the departure of long serving Creative Director Emma Hill (this was her final collection!), but for now you can lust over the rest of the collection and watch the show on Mulberry’s website.
My latest colour obsession is pink pink PINK! It was everywhere at the AW13 fashion shows; one which stood out for me was Topshop Unique, pictured above. Unique mixed all sorts of shades and textures of pink to create mouthwateringly sweet looks, and now the pink trend is slowly creeping into the highstreet ready for the new season. I’ve selected a few of my favourite pieces from Topshop and Primark below:
From the bright yellow and orange hair to the glittering shoes, the Meadham Kirchhoff Autumn Winter 2012 show at London Fashion Week was nothing short of crazy – as if we could expect anything else! With sequins, glitter, tinsel and fur in sickly sweet shades, the collection is, as anticipated, every girly girl’s dream.
Floaty midi and maxi length skirts with lace trims over patterned tights in a plethora of bright colours were seen in plenitude, along with cute button-up collared shirts layered underneath bright knits. Flashes of leopard, baroque and gingham prints were also present throughout, as well as adorable patches, badges and stitching on denim pieces.
Stand out pieces included a gold and silver tinsel jacket and maxi skirt, a rainbow sequinned suit, sequinned bodices over pretty blouses and of course the vivid fur coats and matching stoles.
This collection isn’t the most wearable for everyone but it certainly provides copious amounts of super-cute, girly inspiration to keep us out of our safe, black wardrobes this upcoming autumn and winter. One stand-out piece, for example a brightly coloured fur coat, pair of tights or a delightful knitted jumper, would be a perfect way of lightening up any winter wardrobe, and I personally feel that the glitter shoes in every colour are a must!

Topshop Unique once again did not fail to impress with their London Fashion Week offering as their Autumn Winter 2012 collection wowed bloggers, critics and front row celebrities alike.
The Topshop Unique design team took inspiration from ‘uniform in all its guises, so military came to the fore, but also urban uniform dressing, like peaked caps, exposed zips and boots made for stomping’ (quoted from insideout.topshop.com) and after months of work produced this very mature, sophisticated selection of garments. The collection relies heavily on strong outerwear pieces, featuring oversized, masculine silhouettes and sleeveless layered jackets, as well as all important details like exposed zips and oversized roll up cuffs. These coats and jackets paired with the tough ankle boots which Unique also offered up make for a dream autumn/winter combination.
The autumnal shades of burgundy and olive green were seen in abundance across the catwalk along with burnt orange and navy blue, all of which often accentuated by contrasting black leather panelling and detailing. Unique also updated the extremely trendy midi length skirt by slashing it right up to the thigh.
A repeat cross motif was featured on many pieces throughout the collection, and prints on tops and bottoms were matched to channel ‘pyjama dressing’, as dubbed by the Topshop bloggers.
Evening wear ranged from super wearable black and gold sparkling mini dresses to much more adventurous loose-fit trousers, dungarees and jumpsuits.
All in all a phenomenal collection in my opinion, I can’t wait to see it hit the shelves! Check out some images below take from insideout.topshop.com and a short video summary of the show itself via Rightster.
