Happy Monday everyone! Here’s an outfit I wore last week; another attempt to incorporate pastels into an outfit suitable for the rain we’re still having here in Manchester. This top from SheInside is actually really versatile, I’m going to be wearing it casually like I did here but I think it will also be fab with tailored trousers for a smarter look too. I did think twice about pairing the top with this amazing lilac coat from Missguided as the two are slightly different shades, however I think it works fine because they have similar hues and because the rest of my outfit is black. Thoughts?

Outfit Of The Day | Yellow Blazer

Happy May everyone! It’s dreaded exam month, but at the same time we’re now just that little bit closer to summer, so swings and roundabouts I guess. My apologies if you had the brightness on your screen on full / weren’t wearing sunglasses when you opened this post; I’m not really one to shy away from colour but this outfit is insanely bright! I wouldn’t dare wear it if the sun wasn’t shining, but it’s perfect for a summer party and I love the almost obnoxious boldness of this colour combo. The violent shade of lemon yellow of this blazer makes it such a great statement piece, which you could tone down a little by wearing something classy and all white underneath – someone invite me to a garden party already! I think this colour would look especially great on darker skin tones, but of course I’m still going to wear it anyway! My blue cami dress (which also comes in black and white check) is a little more wearable but equally fun and summery, and I am obsessed with my daisy jewellery from Punky Pins – too cute, and you can get 10% off at Punky Pins with code ‘hannahlouisef’!. My silver ankle strap shoes are ASOS. I’d definitely be snapping them up whilst there is still 25% student discount if I didn’t already have them as they go with every colourful summer outfit I can think of but can also be the main attraction of an outfit thanks to their bright metallic finish; I’m trying my best not to add the metallic green pair to my basket as we speak. Outfit Of The Day | Crochet Top

Crochet is a classic for this time of year, but I’ve been noticing it even more in the run up to this summer. It’s so easy to throw on a crochet top like this to instantly make your outfit more bohemian, ideal for festival season too. Here I paired my crochet style top, which is from Fabric Boutique, with black skinny jeans, chunky ankle boots (my faves, which are now on sale at Topshop for £30!) and added a shaggy fur gillet and a few necklaces and rings to continue the boho vibe. Happy Air Max Day!

Happy Air Max Day! Tomorrow, March 26th 2014, marks 27 years of Nike Air Max and ASOS have kindly sent me this pair of Air Max Theas to celebrate. Although they don’t feature on my blog very often, I have built up quite a collection of trainers over the years, including a grand total of eight pairs of Air Max (oops!). I love wearing trainers, for a start they are extremely comfortable unlike so many of my other shoes, but more importantly they can instantly give an outfit like this a little bit more of an edge.

My new Theas are grey and pink (perfect SS14 colour combination!) and feature a dotted pattern; because they’re quite busy I went for a relatively plain outfit so that they remained the focal point. My t-shirt is Ashish for Topshop (2012, I think!) which I managed to bag on eBay a while ago for a tenner, my faux leather trousers are a Missguided favourite, and I’m wearing my new Pretty Little Thing coat again.

Outfit Of The Day | Scuba

Neoprene-like, ‘scuba’ fabrics are everywhere at the moment, and I love the structured look they create. Even the pleats of this fab Front Row Shop scuba skirt look much more boxy and structured in this fabric, and this boxy scuba crop top from Missguided is super versatile and is the perfect colour to pair with summer pastels as well as black as I have done here. To finish off my outfit I threw on my relaxed, slouchy coat and wore my hair long (with Halo extensions) and curly, to soften up the structured top and skirt. How do you feel about ‘scuba’ fabrics?

You might’ve seen on my Instagram that I received the cutest Valentine’s Day package from the lovely people over at Missguided last month. Amongst heart shaped chocolate goodies and some Rimmel make-up (now stocked by Missguided) was this fabulously romantic rose print playsuit. I love the fit and the lace trim, ideal for date night or perfect under a cropped jumper for a more casual outfit.

Here I wore it with my new baby pink faux leather biker, an absoulte steal at £25 from Primark! I have been eyeing up River Island’s real and faux leather versions (£120 and £60 respectively), so I snapped this up as soon as I saw it. It goes perfectly with this adorable baby pink mini satchel bag too, another bargain at £6.

My Valentine’s Day outfit! My V-Day plans consisted of a home-cooked steak dinner rather than some overpriced meal out among other couples holding hands while they eat (no thanks), so my outfit was nothing particularly special, but I still wanted to keep it cute. I absolutely love the pale blue, summery take on tartan in this Hidden Fashion dress, which I wore with a fluffy Primark jumper, monochrome Missguided boots and a super versatile black cardi from Uniqlo. I always have a plain black cardigan like this in my wardrobe; this one is new as I felt it was about time I replaced my old one which had a hole in it (oops), and Uniqlo is so great for basics. My belt is vintage (one of the few things I bought when I was in LA in the summer), and my necklace is from Chicnova. I hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day!

How to Wear: Fondant Fancy Pastels

I have been challenged by Most Wanted, lifestyle magazine from Voucher Codes, to create three looks incorporating the spring/summer trend for fondant fancy pastel shades. I did this by buying some new items and using them to update what I already had in my wardrobe, and have created three looks suitable for different occasions –

Look #1 – Subtle

Pastel shades can be quite daunting, especially for those who stick mostly to black and neutral shades in their wardrobes, so I wanted to demonstrate how I would update a casual outfit to include the fondant fancy trend in a super wearable way. The base of this outfit is black and grey, including one new piece in this Missguided scuba boxy crop top which I bought because I think that grey is the perfect shade to tone down pastels in the summer when you might not want to be wearing so much black. I chose a Primark fluffy cardigan (£14), which has been keeping me warm as an extra layer over the winter but will be a great transitional piece too, and a necklace from Chicnova as my pastel pieces in this outfit. A statement necklace like this is a great way to wear a trend-colour without altering your whole wardrobe.

Look #2 – In-Your-Face!

This look couldn’t be more different from #1! You’ve already seen this shirt dress dressed up for wintery weather here, but I can’t wait to go more in-your-face with it like this. Wearing an entirely pink outfit is a little braver than look #1, but I think it’s so doable if you have the right pieces, particularly when the weather is warmer and you can break up the colour with bare legs.

The dress is £26 at Fabric Boutique, and I’m wearing it with my £2 bargain coat, which I got on eBay a few months ago. I bought these ‘Secret Garden’ shoes from ASOS, £35, to pair with pretty pastel outfits this summer; they’re dainty enough to work with almost any outfit, and I think they’ll look fab with full skirts. Silver is, like grey, an ideal colour to wear with pastels, and the low stacked heel and ankle strap are just adorable!

Look #3 – Night Out

Fondant fancy shades should not be reserved for the daytime, especially now that there are so many great dresses in a whole array of candy colours coming into the shops. I bought this pale blue scuba boxy dress from Missguided for £19.99, I love the structure and the simplicity of it, as well as the colour of course. It would be a great daytime dress, I’ll probably be wearing it in the near future with black tights, boots and some leather, but I especially love how it looks dressed up! Here I’m wearing it with a statement necklace (Primark), pointed ankle strap heels from She Likes (£25), and a new make-up favourite in Limecrime’s newest Velvetine colour, Pink Velvet.

I hope that I’ve succeeded in this How to Wear challenge from Most Wanted, and that my post has been helpful or at least interesting for you. Pastels are hardly a novel trend, especially for summer, but I’m still a firm fan. Pastel Party

With the festive period very much upon us I’ve found myself needing more than one dressy-but-not-too-dressy outfit for family visits and meals out and such like, and whilst I am a huge fan of sequins and velvet and other typical Christmas and New Years clothing, I wanted to put together something a bit different too. What better way to do this than with pastels?!

Here I paired my new Missguided pink PVC skirt, which I have been lusting over ever since that Topshop version sold out, with another of my many fluffy jumpers – my favourite texture combination at the moment. This jumper is a really sweet subtle shade of lilac, and is a bargain £10 from Primark. The skirt is almost half the price of the Topshop version at £19.99, and comes in a mini and skater style too. I still can’t get enough of pink so I wore this amazing pale pink cocoon coat from Front Row Shop over the top, verging on overkill perhaps but I think it looks cute! Finally I toned down the pastels ever so slightly by opting for amazing holographic ‘oil slick’ boots from Ark and a matching clutch from BooHoo. If you’re a size 3 the boots are on sale for £20 at Ark, but if not Missguided have a version here. Would you go for an allover pastel look for the holiday season?

I think by now it’s probably obvious that I LOVE coats! You can never have too many in the colder months in my opinion, I would much rather repeat and mix and match plain outfits underneath a different coat every day. This Zara-esque collarless dogtooth print coat is a recent addition to my coat collection, and is another bargain at under £25 from SheInside. Here I wore it with my new favourite fluffy jumper from Missguided, and new faux leather shorts from Choies. I think that black leather shorts (paired with Primark’s supercosy tights of course) make a great alternative to leather trousers or jeans, and don’t forget you can get 20% off the jumper at Missguided today!
