High street stores taking a little too much inspiration from high end designers is a somewhat controversial topic which inspires arguments over what ‘true fashion’ is and whether or not you need money to achieve it, etc etc! Although I can’t stand ‘fake’ designer goods such as ‘Vivienne Westwood’ bags with a dodgy looking orb logo because they’re so obviously fake, in my opinion you can’t beat a good designer rip-off (and yes there is a fine line between the two!)
If you loved the Miu Miu Fall 2011 shoe collection but couldn’t quite scrape together enough cash for a pair of your own, now is the time to head over to Topshop (especially if you’re a student – 20% discount ends midnight on Sunday) and grab yourself a pair of their ‘Jamaica Curved Heel Glitz Shoes’ (above) for £55. Check out some of the considerably more pricey Miu Miu versions below – the black and gold Topshop Jamaica shoe looks as if it could be the love child of the Miu Miu glitter & calf hair pump and the glitter finish curved heel pump!
Here’s a closer look at my new navajo/aztec print jacket which was just £10 from Cow in Manchester! It is a little big, but after wearing it for a day I completely love it. I definitely want to pick up some more bomber jackets for the upcoming season. Topshop have some really nice printed bomber jackets, but I am wary of buying a ‘loud’ print from somewhere like Topshop (where the chances are that a lot of people will buy the same item as you) because it can often be disappointing and even embarrassing! Buying a vintage printed jacket is much more rewarding and unique and often a lot cheaper too.
Today I wore my jacket with my American Apparel Disco Pants, a suede vest from Urban Outfitters and my Nike Air Max 90s.
Over the past few days I’ve had a huge shop, scouring what’s left of the January sales in some shops and new arrivals for spring in others for bargains and to spend my Topshop vouchers left over from Christmas. Here’s what I bought:
I’m really impressed with the Primark Spring 2012 range (click here to see it in full on the Look magazine website) and today I picked up this black and white polka dot sheer blouse for just £10. Apart from a few pretty dresses, cute accessories and this striking ‘burnt orange’ blazer, the blouses are the strongest pieces in the collection in my opinion. I’ve also got my eye on this floral blouse with black sleeves and this white blouse with pink accents.
I wasn’t overwhelmed by the Topshop sale this winter, however I did pick up this cute knitted jumper for £15 which will look great over any button-up blouse, especially on a cold but sunny spring day.
Yves Saint Laurent have released a special edition of their iconic Arty ring for Valentine’s Day 2012. A perfect, romantic gift for your other half this Valentine’s Day (get hinting ladies), the ring features a fuchsia glass bead and the word ‘love’ engraved on the back, and will be available from YSL boutiques all over the world.
You might’ve already seen how much I love the new baroque print pieces from Motel (and if you haven’t, click here) and so I was super stoked to receive my order today. After much deliberation I decided on the blue ‘Becka Bodycon Skirt’, although with more baroque print items to follow I can see myself splashing out on something else!
My bag here is also new, ordered from vj-style.com. I was a bit disappointed when I opened my package because I’d meant to order the leopard print version but received black, but after checking I realised it was my mistake and I’d ordered the wrong one! Duh! I’m in two minds over whether to send this back in exchange for the leopard (and probably have to pay more shipping costs) or just to keep it and perhaps order the leopard one too at a later date, because I love it in black too. Decisions decisions!
Today I received a very belated birthday present from my girl friends at college (my birthday was in September!), but one which I am still in love with – the American Apparel Disco Pant! I’ve been yearning for a pair of disco pants for years but couldn’t bring myself to splash out the £70, so they were the perfect 18th birthday gift. I strongly recommend that every girl has a pair of these in any colour, they’re fabulous.
Here I’m wearing them with a pocket t-shirt which I made myself. These, along with other prints, will be available to buy on thepocketco.bigcartel.com in the next few days, so keep your eye out! In the mean time, follow The Pocket Co Tumblr to keep updated. I’m also wearing my Carhartt beanie and the trainers which were a Christmas gift from my boyfriend – my Nike Air Max 1 Beets. Not to everyone’s taste but I think they’re gorgeous!
I haven’t done a ‘latest purchases’ post in a while, but I just had a very brief splurge with my mum and wanted to post my buys which I’m pretty pleased with.
