Oops, I’m back in a blanket cape and high boots. This combo has been a definite blogger favourite of recent months, and one I have worn on more than one occasion myself (remember this look from fashion week?), so I’m sorry for replicating what you’ve seen a million times before! How fun is this New Look cape though? Unfortunately this particular one is out of stock online now, but they do have plenty similar like this one, this one and this one, and they have loads of other alternatives to choose from too (I love this, personally!).

I’m also quite liking the all black outfit underneath the cape – I have been wearing this longline roll neck jumper from Missguided non-stop since I got it, and I like the texture clash between it, my faux leather skirt that is peeking out from underneath, and my faux suede boots. Thoughts?

Flares AND bell sleeves? I figured if I was going to go for this look, I may as well go all out. I finally bit the bullet and got brave enough to order myself a pair of these incredible kick flares from ASOS (which are the most amazing fit and I am now obsessed with them) after seeing them on Megan and Hannah. I think that the secret is the figure hugging top half of the jeans, which I personally much prefer over baggier flares. This pair look amazing paired with a bit more of a modern, minimalist silhouette on top, but here I decided to go for this super cool monochromatic, floral kimono with bell sleeves, which I (very creatively if I do say so myself) safety-pinned into a floaty top. For some extra warmth and a nice print clash, I threw on a recent H&M purchase in this massively oversized scarf, which can also be worn as a blanket cape.

Finally, shoes and accessories. My beautiful bag is from Satchel Central. It is really excellent quality and big-but-not-too-big, and I think that the fact that it’s very minimalistic provides a nice contrast to the rest of my outfit here. My shoes are from Orla Kiely’s AW14 collaboration with Clarks, and I have hardly taken them off since I got them. They’re a nice little nod to the 60s trend, and have a decent heel (2 or 3 inches) but are still insanely comfortable, as you would expect from Clarks.

LFW Day 4 – Outfit Of The Day

Last but not least, my outfit for day 4 of LFW. I didn’t stay for the fifth and final day, so this is my last outfit. I really like this one (if I do say so myself) and had intended on wearing it earlier on in the week, but the heat I suffered through in a black high neck jumper on Friday put me off donning knee high boots and a cape until the Monday.

I am really into suede at the moment, faux or otherwise, which resulted in my double suede ensemble here. This playsuit was such an amazing find in Cow (originally spotted in the rails by Kayla, so thanks for that one!) – it’s a perfect fit on me, and it’s Prada! The boots, also suede, are the same incredible pair from Daniel Footwear that I blogged about here. Super comfortable for walking around all day, and surprisingly breathable in the warm weather too. Finally, I’m so into this cape. It was the perfect cover-up by itself, sort of like a cardigan but cooler, but it will be equally easy to wear over loads of layers in the colder weather. Luckily I bumped into the beautiful Portia (who has took some incredible photos for my blog a couple of weeks ago, which you’ll be seeing shortly!) and Amber Rose, who were kind enough to take my outfit photos for me. Blanket Capes for AW14

Capes are hardly a new fashion phenomena, but with the spotlight at Burberry AW14 shining on their ultra cosy blanket capes it was inevitable that come September we’d all be wanting one. I bought my first (although likely not my last) blanket cape for the season last weekend at Topshop – see above! I’m looking forward to sharing it styled up in outfit posts, I think they’re so easy to wear and I’d put money on the fact that they’ll be absolutely everywhere to the point of overkill at fashion week. I managed to nab the last one of these right off the display model, but it’s available on the website here now. I’ve also created a mini wishlist of some of my favourite affordable blanket capes which you can buy right now. I have my eye on the M&S one in particular, and have also seen some lovely oversized scarves in H&M. Which is your favourite? Have you picked up, or will you be picking up a blanket cape for AW14?

If you don’t see one you like but know a good fabric shop and fancy getting crafty, check out this really great DIY tutorial I found on stylefarm.au:

Select a piece of fabric to your taste. Preferably a wool or wool blend. Fabric comes in many widths, the most common being 115cm or 152cm. (If you are tall, choose the 152cm). Purchase the same length as width (or as close to).
Lay the fabric on a flat surface. To ensure your fabric is square, fold one corner over and ensure the edges are perfectly aligned.
Remove any excess fabric.
You now have a perfect square and are ready to begin!
Using tailors chalk and a ruler (or similar) mark the centre of the fabric. (You may choose to fold the fabric in half and half again to do this with ease). Mark a line from the centre of the fabric to one corner.
Using sharp scissors, cut along your line from the corner to the centre.
Select a complimentary of contrasting thred and blanket stitch the entire perimeter of the fabric. If you have an over locker, you can do this easily by selecting the ‘picot’ edging stitch.
